Dongdaemun Tourism District
Dongdaemun Tourism District is a 24-hour shopping, fashion, and wholesale hub centered on Dongdaemun Market, DDP (Dongdaemun Design Plaza), Fashion Town, and Miliore. Domestic and international tourists, wholesalers, and shoppers keep the area busy until dawn.
It originated from the market outside Heunginjimun (Dongdaemun) in the Joseon period. It grew from the 1900s and expanded into a clothing wholesale center from the 1970s; in the 2010s DDP opened, adding fashion, design, and exhibition spaces.
Dongdaemun Market stays lively past 10 p.m., and DDP draws young people and tourists with night views, exhibitions, and events. Locals shopping at wholesale prices, foreigners seeking Korean fashion and nightscapes, and young night shoppers overlap, making foot traffic among the highest in the country.
Subway Lines 1·4 Dongdaemun Station, Lines 2·4·5 Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station, Lines 2·5 Cheonggu Station. Buses and taxis available late at night.
