Myeong-dong Tourism District
Myeong-dong is Seoul Jung-gu's main shopping, beauty, and tourism street, with duty-free shops, cosmetics, fashion, and restaurants packed along the main street and alleys around Myeong-dong Cathedral. A must for foreign tourists and a popular shopping and date spot for locals.
The commercial district formed during the Japanese colonial period and became a downtown area with the completion of Myeong-dong Cathedral in the 1960s. From the 1990s, K-beauty and K-fashion growth and duty-free expansion brought a surge in tourists.
Duty-free, cosmetics, fashion, and cafes are concentrated in a short stretch, so you can shop, eat, and take photos in one to two hours. Myeong-dong Cathedral is a photo and stroll spot; on weekends and evenings the street fills with couples and tourists, and real-time population stays high.
Subway Line 2 Euljiro 1-ga·Myeong-dong Station, Line 4 Myeong-dong Station. Many airport and city bus stops.
