Itaewon Tourism District

Itaewon is a multicultural, night-view, nightlife, and antique street in Yongsan-gu where foreign residents, tourists, and young people gather—Seoul's representative international commercial district. The main street around Itaewon Station and the Bogwang-dong·Hannam-dong area are designated as a tourism district.

History & background

Itaewon started near the US military base after the Korean War and was known in the 1980s–90s for foreigner-oriented businesses and antique and clothing streets. From the 2000s, clubs, live bars, and restaurants grew, making it a center of nightlife and tourism.

Why it's famous

Multinational food, antique furniture street, clubs and bars, and Hangang-view cafes connect to Gyeongnidan-gil and Haebangchon; crowds come for shopping and cafes by day and clubs and night views by night. During events like Halloween, crowds peak and real-time population rises sharply.
