Dongdaemun Station

Dongdaemun Station is a transfer for Lines 1 and 4 near Dongdaemun in Jongno-gu. It is the gateway to Dongdaemun Market, DDP, Fashion Town, and night shopping; tourists and shoppers concentrate here.

History & background

It became a key station on Line 1 when the line opened in 1974 and a transfer station with Line 4 in 1985. DDP's opening in the 2010s increased tourism and shopping traffic.

Dongdaemun Market, DDP, and night markets draw crowds until late. Domestic and international tourists and wholesale/retail shoppers keep real-time population among the highest in the country.
